Traveling for Business – How to get a Visa and What it Entails

International Business travel can be more complicated than domestic travel. Business travel requires more planning than regular travel. Firstly, the reason behind your trip should be purely business and not pleasure. Secondly, and most importantly, it requires a different type of visa.

1. Visit your nearest Business Visa Center

Their role is to clarify information and to guide you in your business visa application process.

2. Know what type of business visa you will be needing

The business-related (B-1) visitor visa travel includes and permits travel to:

  • Attend a professional, educational, scientific or business convention or a conference on certain dates.

  • Settle an estate.

  • Consultation with business associates.

  • Participating in short-term training.

  • The negotiation of a contract.

Although this is not an all-inclusive list, it provides an idea about what is entailed in the B-1 visitor’s visa.

3. Application

If your reasons for traveling fits within the list above, the next step is to apply for a visa at the embassy of the country you’re planning to travel to and schedule a visa interview appointment.

4. Meet all requirements.

To increase the chance of visa approval, make sure you meet all the prerequisites needed for the business visa application.

5. Processing wait times

The processing time for a business visa depends on the consulate where you apply. Typically, an appointment wait time takes up to 21 calendar days and the processing time takes approximately 3 working days.

Remember to plan your time wisely in order to not be caught off-guard if something unpredicted happens. Get your visa affairs in order early so that you have ample time left before your business trip to prepare for other events on the trip.
